Storm damage and insurance claims

When a storm tears into your roof, the first hours matter and the insurance part can feel like a second storm. We tarp it the same day, document everything, and work alongside your insurance company from first call to finished roof.

First hours

What to do right after the storm

Stay off the roof. Take photos of anything you can see safely from the ground, move what you can away from active leaks, and call us. We come out the same day for active damage, tarp what is open, and shoot the whole roof with the drone so the damage is documented before anything gets touched.

The claim

How the insurance process works with us

Step 1

Inspect and document

Free inspection, drone included. Every bit of damage gets photographed and written up, and you keep the full set of photos.

Step 2

File with proof in hand

You file the claim with our documentation in hand, and we work alongside your insurance company while the adjuster reviews the damage.

Step 3

Rebuild, outside and in

Roof, siding and gutters outside. Drywall, paint and flooring inside if water got in. One company takes it from tarp to finished ceiling.

Know your damage

Wind damage and hail damage look different

What wind does

  • Lifts and creases shingles along the edges and ridge, sometimes without tearing them off.
  • Peels back whole sections when it gets under a lifted edge.
  • Drops limbs that punch through decking, like the damage in the photos above.

What hail does

  • Bruises shingles and knocks the granules loose, leaving soft dark spots you can barely see from the ground.
  • Dents gutters, downspouts and vent caps, which is often the first visible clue.
  • Shortens the life of the whole roof even when nothing is leaking yet.

Miami Valley storm season runs hard from spring through summer, and one system can put hail on one street and straight line wind on the next. If a storm rolled through your neighborhood and the neighbors have inspection signs in their yards, it is worth having yours looked at even if nothing is dripping. Hail damage especially gets missed until it becomes a leak two winters later, and by then the claim window may be closed.

When the adjuster comes out, they are looking for the same things we photograph on the first visit. Impact marks, creased shingles, exposed mat, dented soft metal. Having that documented before the meeting means nothing gets argued from memory.

"Roundhouse came out in a swift response to check out hail damage from a terrible storm. They guided me through the insurance process and helped me get my roof taken care of."

Questions

Storm and insurance FAQs

Should I call you or my insurance company first?
Call us first. An inspection with photos in hand makes the claim conversation a lot shorter, and if the damage turns out to be minor we will tell you that too, before a claim goes on your record.
How fast can you get a tarp on it?
Same day for active damage. Keeping water out of the house is the whole point of the first visit.
What if the insurance company denies the claim?
It happens, and it is not always the end of it. We give you an honest read on whether the damage supports asking your insurance company for a second look, and if a repair is the smarter route we quote that instead.
How long do I have to file a claim?
Every policy sets its own window, and many give you around a year from the date of the storm. Check your policy or ask your agent, and do not sit on visible damage. The inspection is free and gets the damage documented with photos right away.
Will a storm claim raise my rates?
Weather claims are generally treated differently than at fault claims, but every carrier handles it their own way and we are not your insurance company. What we can do is tell you honestly whether the damage justifies a claim at all, so you are not filing over something a small repair would fix.
Do you fix the inside damage too?
Yes. Drywall, ceiling texture, paint and flooring. Water damage does not stop at the shingles and neither do we. Flooded basements and plumbing leaks are covered on our water damage page.
