Scope
Every kitchen starts from a different place. Some need a refresh, and some need everything down to the studs. These are the pieces we work through with you.
New cabinets, or keeping solid boxes and updating the doors and finish to stretch the budget.
Quartz, granite, butcher block and laminate, with the sink and cooktop cutouts done right.
Tile from simple subway to full height stone, set and grouted to keep water out of the wall behind it.
Tile, luxury vinyl plank and other options that stand up to spills and foot traffic.
Recessed lights, pendants over an island and under cabinet lighting where you actually work.
Adding an island, moving a sink or range, or opening up a wall, with plumbing and electrical done to code.
Counters
Quartz is engineered stone. It does not need sealing, resists stains, and comes in a wide range of colors and patterns.
Granite is natural stone, so every slab is one of a kind. It handles heat well and needs to be sealed now and then to resist stains.
Butcher block brings warmth and works well on islands. It needs regular oiling and shows knife marks over time, which a lot of people like.
Laminate has come a long way and is the budget friendly option for rentals and quick refreshes.
Older homes
Tearing out old cabinets, trim and walls in a pre-1978 home can disturb lead paint, and federal EPA rules require a certified firm for that work. Roundhouse is an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, so demolition in an older kitchen is done with containment and cleanup that keep lead dust out of the rest of the house. Our lead abatement page covers the rules.
Pricing
A counter and backsplash refresh is a small project. A full gut with new cabinets, counters and flooring is a large one.
Usually the biggest single line item, and the one with the widest range in price.
Laminate costs least, butcher block sits in the middle, and quartz and granite cost the most.
Keeping the sink, range and dishwasher where they are keeps costs down. Moving them means new plumbing, electrical and venting.
Lead-safe practices on pre-1978 homes and any hidden damage found during demolition.
Step by step
We look at the kitchen, talk through how you use it and what you want, and give you a written estimate for your job.
You choose cabinets, counters, tile and fixtures. We order before demolition so the kitchen is not torn out while you wait on materials.
Demolition, plumbing and electrical, cabinets, counters, backsplash, flooring and trim. We walk the finished kitchen with you before we call it done.
